ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Marlene is a native Long Islander, who resides and maintains her studio, (Deerview), in the eastern end of the Town of Brookhaven in Middle Island.

Marlene’s artistic education began under the private tutelage of Audrey Swanson Marlow, P.S.A..  Mrs. Marlow’s expertise was Portraiture, Still Life, and Florals. which instilled the knowledge required for rendering animals, people and nature.

Her next instructor was famed portrait artist and illustrator Rapheal Desoto.  Marlene absorbed Ralph's attention to detail and creative uses of various media.   It was with this beloved instructor that Marlene’s true color technique showed forth.  Ms. Bezich has also benefited from workshops conducted by Master Pastelists George Thompson and Jane McGraw Truebner. Mr. Thompson and Ms Truebner opened Marlene’s eyes to the beauty of painting outdoors, (Au Plein Aire).  Capturing the quickly changing light patterns on the landscape has become her second love.

In May of 1996, Marlene, along with 11 other artists, formed a cooperative art gallery in Bellport, N.Y., named “The Bellport Lane Art Gallery”.

Most recently, Marlene has returned to her first love of animal portraiture.  She has been continually exhibiting in various national art exhibits devoted to Dog Art.  It is
in this arena that Marlene’s talents truly shine.  Her study of human portraiture has prepared her to render animals precisely and lovingly. Marlene has also been included in many nationally juried Pastel exhibits hosted by various Pastel Societies.  Marlene has been the recipient of many awards, locally and nationally, and is an Associate Member of the Pastel Society of America in NYC.

Marlene says, "I love sharing my knowledge of Pastels, Painting and Drawing with all my students here at the Art League!  In my classes, I endeavor to create an atmosphere of enjoying the love of artistic creation in a relaxed and enjoyable manner.  It is my job as a teacher to show my students how to read the map of their artistic journey.  It is up to my students to choose their route.”
