The Black History Month theme for 2025, African Americans and Labor, according to the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH®), focuses on the "various and profound ways that work and working of all kinds - free and unfree, skilled, and unskilled, vocational and voluntary, intersect with the collective experiences of Black people."
Islip Arts Council invites Black creatives to contemplate how work of all kinds influenced Black history and culture in their daily lives. From the historical agricultural labor of enslaved African Americans to entrepreneurship in Black communities, Black people's work has been transformational throughout the U.S., Africa, and the Diaspora.
All media will be considered. Works must not exceed 70x70 inches and must be ready to hang or be displayed on a pedestal.

ABOUT THE CURATOR
Faith Evans was born and raised in Eastern Long Island. She had a passion for the arts since the age of 5, however, her dream of going to art school was not an option when she graduated high school. She left New York for LA to get her college degree in Radio, TV and Film where she worked behind the cameras and in radio & TV advertising for many years.
After coming back to NY, the memory of her love for art returned. Faith is now a pencil artist and continues to dive into her art with commissions, illustrating, and selling her work. Recently, Faith has found a new passion for curating art shows. Faith curated for The Center in Bridgehampton’s first art show for their annual Bridgehampton day in 2024. Six Black artists from Long Island exhibited their work. Her latest curated show took place in December 2024, highlighting Black Men, also in Bridgehampton.
For Faith, the process of curating and combining talents to transform a space is magical and rewarding.
